Morphology and morphometric study of occipital condyles
نویسندگان
چکیده
Introduction: The occipital condyles are undersurface protruberances of the bone in vertebrates, which articulate with superior facets atlas vertebra. oval or reniform shape, and their anterior extremities directed forward medially closer together than posterior end. Aim: aim study is to provide important anatomical parameters for lateral transcondylar approach. Materials Methods: 200 100 dry human skulls ( 73 males 27 females) were studied. measured included length, width, height, intercondylar distance, distance between basion opesthion, from tip condyle opestion opesthion. Measurements made using Vernier Callipers. Results: mean width height greater females. more females whereas males. opesthion / anteroposteriordiamerer foramen magnum on both sides. Conclusion: knowledge condylar anatomy helps surgeon making decisions regarding extent direction drilling minimizing injury retraction neural structures. KEY WORDS: Occipital Condyles, Foramen Magnum, Intercondylar Basion, Opesthion.

Human Adult Occipital Condyles : A Morphometric Analysis
This study proposed to morphologically analyze the adult human occipital condyle, estimate the bilateral differences, sexual dimorphism and compare with the available data. We conducted this study on hundred occipital condyles in fifty dry human skulls. The measurement was performed by the means of the vernier’s caliper on both sides of the skull. The parameters measured are length, width, heig...
متن کاملSurgical anatomy and morphometric analysis of the occipital condyles and foramen magnum.
Surgical anatomy that provides the basis for dealing with lesions arising in the lower clivus and ventral foramen magnum was reviewed in 8 adult cadaver heads and 76 dry skulls. The extreme lateral transcondylar approach was performed in cadavers; the morphometric analysis was studied in both the cadavers and the skulls. The landmarks, distances and structures were selected in order to guide th...
متن کاملAnatomico-radiological study of asymmetrical articular facets on occipital condyles and its clinical implications.
The articular facets on the inferior aspect of the occipital condyles, articulate with the superior articular facets of the first cervical (atlas) vertebra, to form the atlanto-occipital joint. The present case, reports the asymmetrical dimensions of the facets on the occipital condyles of a human dried skull. The anatomico-radiological study of asymmetrical articular facets on the occipital co...
متن کاملMorphometric alteration of femoral condyles due to knee osteoarthritis.
Aim of this study was to estimate how knee osteoarthritis (OA) affects the shape of femoral condyles by comparing the radiuses of condylar curves between healthy and OA knees. Seventeen female and five male patients with established diagnosis of knee OA were included in the study. Radiuses of medial and lateral condylar curves were calculated from the side view knee X-ray by original mathematic...
متن کاملUnusual occipital condyles of the skull: an osteological study with clinical implications.
CONTEXT The occipital condyles of the skull articulate with the superior articular facets of the atlas vertebra and form an important junction between the cranium and the vertebral column. The morphological features of occipital condyles are relevant in biomechanical, anatomical and clinical studies. OBJECTIVE To describe the anatomical profile of unusual occipital condyles detected in a bone...
